The moment you have all been waiting for is finally here, and no, we are not referring to the weekend or any upcoming holiday that brings a twinkle to your eyes. We are talking about one of the greatest kite events since the dawn of mankind. While there are many great kiteboarding locations around the globe, perhaps one of the most historical and elusive is that of Hood River, Oregon, the birthplace of park riding and the pinnacle force that sustains its continuation.

This year the Kite Park League is proud to announce a new partnership with THE QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE WORLD TOUR to present THE QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE PARK LEAGUE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024.

The event will be held from August 3rd - 10th and will crown this years QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE PARK WORLD CHAMPIONS 2024 in both men’s and women’s divisions. Without question, this will be a week to remember.

Stay Tuned and be ready.

GKA Freestyle World Cup Mauritius 2019

Bel Ombre

One of the most picture-perfect kiting destinations on the planet. Mauritius has countless world class waves and this year the tour heads to Bel Ombre, home to yet another epic left-hander with a huge flat water lagoon for freestyle.

The GKA has never held a freestyle event on Mauritius, but the first GKA Kite-Surf World Tour event in Mauritius happened in 2016. That first year, Airton’s unexpected loss to local rider Jeremy Chan left room for Matchu Lopes to make a push and win the event before stealing a tour win from under his friend’s nose at the next (and final) event in Dakhla.

In 2017, Airton was denied a clean sweep on the way to his GKA World Title as well when he was knocked out in the semi-finals by Sebastian Ribeiro before Keahi de Aboitiz went on to take the win.

The GKA Kite World Tour didn’t visit Mauritius in 2018, so it’s going to be epic when the tour hits Bel Ombre this year!

Prevailing winds

Southeasterly trade winds hit Bel Ombre from the left with wind strengths from 15 to 25 knots. The trades have travelled over 4,000 miles by the time they reach the island, so they’re very constant and make for awesome cross and cross-off wave riding conditions on the reefs.

Water conditions

Flatwater lagoon close to the beach, wind sideshore from the left.

Competition history

First time that a GKA Freestyle World Cup will be hosted in Mauritius, last years has been only Kite-Surf competition!
