The moment you have all been waiting for is finally here, and no, we are not referring to the weekend or any upcoming holiday that brings a twinkle to your eyes. We are talking about one of the greatest kite events since the dawn of mankind. While there are many great kiteboarding locations around the globe, perhaps one of the most historical and elusive is that of Hood River, Oregon, the birthplace of park riding and the pinnacle force that sustains its continuation.

This year the Kite Park League is proud to announce a new partnership with THE QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE WORLD TOUR to present THE QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE PARK LEAGUE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024.

The event will be held from August 3rd - 10th and will crown this years QATAR AIRWAYS GKA KITE PARK WORLD CHAMPIONS 2024 in both men’s and women’s divisions. Without question, this will be a week to remember.

Stay Tuned and be ready.

Prevailing winds

A northeast wind averages 19 - 25 knots in winter, increasing to 30 knots in the summer months of July and August.

Water conditions

Famed as one of the world's hotspots for kitesurfing, there are good ground swells that hit this coast and wrap around the points (especially so here at Westpoint) which makes it perfect for a combo wave and strapless freestyle event with cross-onshore winds. The water temp sits around 19-24°C / 66 - 75°F all year. On the lagoons it's butter flat and and ideal for going big!

Competition history

Keahi de Aboitiz was undefeated at this spot for four years, between 2013 and 2016 in all competitions, before being unseated by the maestro, Mitu Monteiro in 2017, who re-enacted his victory here in 2007, when he became Wave World Champion. In 2018, Airton took his first ever GKA Dakhla event win. He won again in 2019. After a one year break he got his hat-trick of wins in 2021, but even by winning that event couldn't stop James Carew from earning enough points to be crowned GKA Kite-Surf World Champion there in Dakhla! Morocco has a habit of turning on the magic for competition. We can't wait to be back in late September..
