At its core, the Global Kitesports Association’s main objective is to continually ensure that kitesurfing has safe practices through the development and implementation of equipment standards. Our goal is to maintain beach safety and access for kitesurfers around the world. As head of the GKA, Jorgen Vogt has been working tirelessly in the development of what may be some of the most important safety standards for kitesurfers to date–tracing stickers.
Tracing stickers have been developed in response to the countless complaints that the GKA receives regarding kitesurfers and rescue services. One of the biggest issues regarding kitesurfing beach and water access is in having a collaborative relationship with water safety and government rescue services. In recent years, the complaints received have come to a head and the GKA has taken action to maintain beneficial relationships with governing bodies. As a result, the GKA has worked with kitesurfing manufacturers to coordinate the roll out of the GKA Tracking Sticker. Kite brands have collectively decided to put a waterproof sticker on any new kite onto which the owner can write their contact details. The sticker can be easily removed from the kite in case the owner wants to sell the kite. Stickers shall also be available at dealer stores. Click the link in our bio to read the complete article.

GKA Freestyle World Cup Fuerteventura 2019

Rene Egli and Melia Hotels at Sotavento have been playing host to some of the world’s top kiting and windsurfing events for 34 years now! This summer  the GKA Freestyle World Cup Fuerteventura will take place from 19 – 24th July. The pumping, cross-offshore winds can blow up to 40 knots during the season so it’s a prime spot for some Big-Air action. It’s also a spectator-friendly location with a viewing gallery right on the shoreline and epic parties by night at in the World Cup Tent, simply known as La Carpa!

Prevailing winds

Around 80% of the time the wind blows cross-offshore in Sotavento and it's at its strongest from May - September. In the high-season (July and August) the wind can ratchet up to 40 knots, so you can expect a real show here if the event coincides with a properly windy week. The conditions play right into the hands of some of the tour's most powerful riders such as Airton Cozzolino, Paulino Pereira and Gustavo Arrojo and the Big-Air comps are always something to behold!Conditions can be challenging though, and that underlines the skill of the riders when they're competing here.

Water conditions

Fuerteventura is littered with some truly World Class wave spots but you'll find no surf in Sotavento. There's flat water on the inside and short chop a little further out which makes for perfect take-off ramps for the riders.

Competition history

This year will be the fourth time a GKA Kite World Cup is organized at Sotavento
